This is confusing the hell out of me because I've actually heard many conservatives talk about how compulsory military service could be a good thing and I know Israel does something similar with some success I think. But I don't know...his "circle of love" comment smacks of snark and condescension. And, if it's come to this, it seems a fairly sobering need, not one we should be cavalier about. We'll see...
Imagine that... a requirement for every able-bodied young person to serve their country in either civil or military service, in the same way that most of Europe has been doing since WWII... when McCain et al had this idea, I'll bet you were all for it, but the Obama administration bringing it back to the forefront must be the harbinger of some sort of heretofore unknown socialist plot. You are nothing if not predictable in your shift of opinion on this matter. The tenet, or lynchpin, if you will, of this idea is an internal culmination of the efforts of young people to build a better tomorrow. I think it just pisses you off to hear Obama and friends having some effective ideas.

yes, the interchanging of the words "volunteer" and "require" is pretty much what concerns me, too...
